NORTH KOREAN NUCLEAR CRISIS: too much has happened to catch up on. My gut reaction is that while they may be willing to be convinced to abandon their pursuit of nuclear weapons, the leaders of the DPRK see the present as a golden opportunity to swiftly pursue nuclear weapons while the U.S. is focused on Iraq and American allies in the region are extremely unwilling to support a military attack on North Korea. I noted last November that unless the U.S. is willing to use force, we had better get used to the idea of a nuclear-armed North Korea. So far, I see little to shake this view.
