JOSHUA MARSHALL HAS SOME CAMPAIGN ADVICE FOR JOHN KERRY:
A thought: if your opponent has $100 million to portray you as an effete snob, don't go on vacation to a fancy ski resort in Idaho.I think this especially the case when every word, gesture and act will be recorded by a feeding frenzy of media types (and bloggers). Does how Kerry treats his secret service protection matter in the larger scheme of things? Perhaps, but not nearly so much as the issues Kerry thinks are important. There are obviously some clear and singificant differences between Bush and Kerry but these often get lost in the 24/7 media coverage that would much rather emphasize the trivial and reinforce already existing tropes about the candidate (Gore a serial liar; Bush a congenial idiot; Kerry a haughty waffler etc. etc.)
